Balancing two blogs

I promise I won’t keep boring you with posts like this forever.

So why post it at all?

Because I’ve learned I’m far from alone when it comes to indecision and doubts about blogging. Maybe some of you will recognize yourselves and find it comforting to read.

My latest struggle has been figuring out what and where to publish. I often feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when it comes to blogging.

Writing is my biggest passion, but I also love sharing smaller, casual things. Mostly because I still find the technology behind all this fascinating. I’m like a kid in a candy store when I run a homemade shortcut for photo publishing or find a way to automate something. I know, it’s childish, but I’ll take that over being a grumpy old man any day.

But just like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde can’t exist in the same place at once, I’ve never quite managed to combine my two worlds of blogging. I’ve tried a few times, but it never felt right — until now.

I recently brought my Bear blog back to life, and it feels great. It’s where I restarted blogging back in February 2023, and my love for its simplicity and focus on writing has never faded.

Then there’s this blog, hosted on Micro.blog. It’s a place for my inner nerd child to play. I can share shorter posts, create photo collections, publish videos, track books, keep a movie diary, and enjoy a community that’s free from likes and follower counts.

My focus between the two tends to come and go in waves. I think that’s why having two blogs on the same platform never worked for me. It always felt like splitting myself in two when only one side wanted to show up.

Now I can simply follow what I feel like doing at the moment, and to me, that’s the perfect setup.

It might sound complicated, but to me, it’s easier on the mind than forcing it all into one place. And maybe someone else will find a bit of inspiration in my winding web journey.

So there you have it. birming.com will be my mixed-up playground, and robertbirming.com (RSS) will be where I write about what’s on my mind.

Happy blogging!
