Robert Birming

Hi, I’m Robert from Sweden! 👋

Welcome to my little corner of the internet — a mix of thoughts and experiences, put into words.

On this page, I’ve shared a bit about myself and this blog — who’s behind it, why it exists, and probably more than you asked for.

🙋‍♂️ Introduction

I live in the beautiful city of Stockholm and make a living as a home inspector. When I’m not crawling around in attics or blogging, you might find me snapping photos or reading a book with a cup of coffee at a cozy café — either here at home or somewhere else in the world.

Speaking of the world, one of my biggest passions is travel. My favorite destination? Thailand. I love the food, the landscapes, the people, and the language. It’s beauty and joy all wrapped into one. My favorite spot is Chiang Mai, and I’ve been going back there for over ten years.

👨‍💻 Blogging

I was first introduced to the web in the 90s during a course run by the Swedish Public Employment Service. It was all very basic — how to create a document, send an email, and find something on the Internet.

On the last day, the teacher said, “Today I’m going to let you create a web page.”

We built it in a text file, adding some simple formatting wrapped in HTML tags. Then we opened the file in a browser… and I was blown away! Just a few snippets of code turned gibberish into a web page. It felt like magic — and honestly, it still does. 🪄

That experience led to several of the jobs I’ve had since. These days, I’m lucky to count web publishing as a hobby rather than a full-time job.

For this blog of mine, I’m using the Micro.blog platform. The design is a slightly modified version of the mnml theme by Jim Mitchell.

Not only do I enjoy blogging, I also love reading other people’s blogs. Check out my blogroll for a selection of bloggers I admire.

🎨 Projects

I enjoy tinkering with web design and all kinds of little things related to blogging — even if I’m far from an expert. It’s something I do for fun, mostly because it relaxes me and sparks joy. Below are a couple of projects I’m currently playing around with.

🏠 Living

I grew up in a small town called Åkersberga, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) outside of Stockholm. A beautiful place! I still have family there, so I visit my old neighborhood at least once a month. It always feels great to be back.

These days, I live in the Östermalm district of Stockholm. It’s considered the posh part of town and is often described as “one of Sweden’s most exclusive districts.” Believe me, my life is far from fancy—my apartment is a 25 m² (270 ft²) rental. But I like it.

🧰 Work

I trained as a bricklayer and worked in construction for about ten years. After that, I tried my hand at a few different things:

These days, as previously mentioned, I work as a home inspector. I visit several homes every day and give homeowners advice on how to prevent water damage, fire, and burglary. I love it! It lets me explore new places and meet people I would never have come across otherwise.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
