My (tedious) blogging workflow
Earlier today I wrote about my blogging doubts as someone not writing in his native language. Fittingly, shortly after, I read My Blogging Workflow posts by Barry Hess and Robb Knight. So I thought I’d share the procedure from my second language perspective.
- I usually write down (or speak) my ideas in Apple Notes. It might be a couple of words, a sentence, or a quote.
- Then I write a draft in Ulysses. I actually like iA Writer better, but grammar check is better in Ulysses.
- Then I use Grammarly to do a second grammar check. Might seem a bit over the top to use both, but I’ve found it’s a good combination. They’re good at different things.
- Lastly, I do a final round in DeepL. This AI check isn’t for grammar, really, but more a choice of wording. I pick bits and pieces here and there that I think sound better. I also use this app for translations when needed.
- Then I copy the final draft from Ulysses and paste it into Pika. I love the “what you see is what you get” aspect of Pika (with markdown support).
Then… Publish post!
So, as you might imagine, it’s a bit of a struggle. On the positive side, the quality of my texts in Swedish are usually “crappier” since I don’t care that much about checking grammar. Writing in English makes me care more about my posts.
As the Swedish saying goes: Bad things always bring good things.
