Watched: The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) 🍿

Not very good. I saw it on the plane on my way from Thailand to Sweden, so I finished it just to pass the time.

I finally got around to updating my Blogger’s toolbox page. It now contains 237 links (but who’s counting?) with everything from web accessibility to CSS shapes and beyond. Hope you find it useful. 🧑‍💻

Two kinds of machines I’ve seen on the streets of Chiang Mai and nowhere else: a helmet cleaner and an emergency button. The “don’t push the button” battle felt like a Muay Thai fight. 😊

A helmet cleaning station is displayed on the left, while an emergency press button kiosk stands on the right, both set in an urban outdoor environment with motorcycles in the background.

I passed this vintage workshop while walking the streets of Chiang Mai, and snapped a shot. It almost feels like cheating to take photos of old stuff. It always looks so cool 😎

A vintage workshop features an assortment of tools, a table with various items, and an industrial fan on the wall.

I walked in and ordered a cappuccino. The barista replied, “Here’s what I found on the web for cupcake chinos.”

A cafe named Mac Café Chiang Mai is adorned with greenery on its facade and features signage related to Apple products.

People busy on their phones while a blind girl is trying to get by. I’m not saying I’m Mr. Perfect. It could just as well have been me absorbed in my phone. It just feels sad when the contrast becomes so clear.

A busy street scene shows a diverse group of people walking, some holding phones and beverages.

I just added a library of CSS styles to my other blog. Even though they’re made for Bear, you might still find some inspiration no matter what blogging platform you’re using.

Finished reading: Råttkungen by Pascal Engman 📚

I enjoyed it even more than the first book, much because the story is set in my neighborhood.

The bouncer wouldn’t let me in, but it all worked out when I said, “This isn’t the drunk you’re looking for.”

A black-and-white mural depicts a stormtrooper in a military uniform on the wall of a building with a door and a small table in front.

Listening to: Shoreline by Broder Daniel from Cruel Town 🎵

Trying out the new ”Activity” feature in the @microsocial app for Micro.blog. I love the idea! For this little test I picked the ”Listening” option and a song that’s become part of modern Swedish music history.

I love checking out small, half-hidden alleys here in Chiang Mai. Especially when it’s dark. There’s always some kind of bright light source that makes the scenes almost feel staged. This photo is straight from the phone, with zero edits.

A small, dimly lit street-side water vending machine with signage is surrounded by various items and scaffolding structures at night.

Two tiny tealights fighting the darkness. Looks like they’re winning. Go light! 🙌🕯️

A rustic street corner features a candle-lit shrine next to a large tree surrounded by brooms, a mop, and a blue cart.

There’s something about old stuff. You just point and shoot, and it’s going to look cool. Maybe it’s also about the fact that it’s still around, that it has survived people’s urge to trade the old for the new. A sense of “there’s still hope for humanity”.

A vintage Volkswagen van is parked by the sidewalk, surrounded by trees and small shops at night.

Choosing not to choose, and it worked great again today. Fate knows my taste.

Meditation makes me boring — a few words about what meditation has meant to me, and what it still does.

I’m still so hesitant about posting shorter, title-less posts like this one. Even now, when I have robertbirming.com for longer posts. As if this isn’t considered a “real blog post”. It’s stupid, I know.

Anyway, the photo is from an evening walk around the back alleys of Chiang Mai.

A small street food stall with colorful umbrellas is surrounded by people and a person on a scooter at night.

Found another hidden gem here in Chiang Mai today. It really feels like you’re stepping into another world when you go from street chaos to quiet calm. Realted blog post: The idiot behind the wheel

Found this cool little hidden coffee shed today. No electricity, amazing prices, and fantastic coffee.

I’ve been using both ChatGPT and Claude lately for CSS. Running tests side by side on the same things. Here’s my short summary of how they differ:

I have now moved most of my long-form content to robertbirming.com. I’ve set up redirects for several posts and pages, but far from all. I still like the idea of keeping birming.com as a Micro.blog-hosted space for shorter posts. Knowing myself, I hardly dare say it, but I really like this setup. 😎
