My lucky seven

Some of the places I've visited.

Today marks seven years since I started working as a house inspector.

In that time, I’ve visited 6642 places and met almost twice as many people. Things that would’ve been impossible without this job — and I’m very grateful for it.

But that’s not what I’m most grateful for. Nor is it the salary (which, honestly, isn’t great).

What I’m most grateful for is the support I got.

About a year into the job, I hit rock bottom. Severe anxiety and darkness like I’d never experienced before. Later, I was diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder).

Through all of it, my employer stood by me 100%. From colleagues to bosses, they were there whenever I needed them. They gave me the time and space to slowly find my way back.

Seven years, 6642 places, countless faces. But what I carry with me most is the kindness and understanding I was met with when I needed it the most.

My lucky seven.
