Cookies and blogs

Small nests made of thin pastry strands, filled with green pistachio and topped with whole nuts, are arranged in a tray.

I just got this lovely gift, a box of wonderfully good cookies, from a client I visited.

I was very grateful, of course. But to be honest, not that surprised.

When I visit clients from places like Iran, as in this case, I know they’ll offer me something when I’m done. Most often something to drink, cookies, or some kind of candy.

Generosity seems to be an innate and natural trait in these cultures. It’s simply a given that you offer your guest something. So nice!

Sadly, that part seems to have faded in much of the Western world. It’s become all about me, myself, and I. So sad.

But there’s a silver lining. A little corner of the world where generosity still blooms: the blogging community.

People share free themes and plugins. They link to other bloggers in posts and blogrolls. They organize group challenges, leave encouraging comments, write in guestbooks…

It’s such a joy to see.

So, to all the bloggers out there: thank you for being you. What you do is invaluable.

Keep on blogging!
