Less time, more blog

A large clock with a red outline stands atop a building against a backdrop of a dramatic, cloudy sky at dusk.
Clock on a building in my hometown.

When I checked today’s schedule, I noticed I only had one job after lunch. Normally, it’s at least two. Often three.

I sent a quick message to the office: “Do I really just have one job this afternoon?”

She replied:

Yes, that’s all. You have the rest of the day off. You’re worth it!

Wonderful! So here I am, blogging a couple of hours earlier than usual.

In my current job, I can usually carve out 1–2 hours for blogging on workdays. In earlier jobs, I’ve had more. I’ve worked part-time. I’ve worked from home.

But one thing has stayed the same: I’ve kept blogging.

Here’s the strange part. The more time I’ve had, the less I’ve written.

It’s like creativity feeds on constraints. That narrow window of time pushes me to write. I know it’s limited. If I don’t use it now, it’s gone. Tomorrow is another chance, sure — but not the same one.

I’ve also learned this: momentum matters. If I skip today, it’s a bit harder tomorrow. Then harder still the day after that.

Maybe you have more time than I do. Maybe you still struggle to publish.

Try giving yourself less time.

Sometimes, less is more. Sometimes, limits unlock flow.
