The Satisfying Grind

Yesterday, I released version 1.4 of the Bearming Theme. It was the biggest update so far, but also the one that was least visible outwardly.

I described it as a boring update in the form of optimizations and behind-the-scenes improvements. I also explained that it's something I've wanted to do for a long time but have been putting off. It's more fun to tinker with add-ons, create palettes, and make other changes that are visible to the outside world.

At the same time, I actually agree with what Claudia wrote on Mastodon, that there can be something satisfying about this kind of work. It feels good to check things off the to-do list, and it's satisfying to know that these are good changes that will make things easier going forward.

However, that satisfying feeling is nothing you hear about until you've actually started. Until then, it's just one long, whiny chorus:

"Oh no, how boring! That can wait. Focus on doing something fun instead..."

But next time it happens, I'll be prepared. I'll keep the memory of that satisfying feeling in a safe place. When the grumpiness strikes, I'll pull out my antidote. Ha! It will work!

Or at least, it might work.

Well, I hope it will work.

Come to think of it, it's actually never worked before, but maybe one day it will...
