Making Writing a Natural Part of Our Day

When Steven shared his blog post, "From Daily Writer to Dormant Blogger: Staging a Comeback" on Mastodon, he asked three questions:

Although I write every day and have a certain routine for it, I don't think it's the most important thing (I'll come back to that).

As my life situation looks right now, with a full-time job, I write after work. Usually after a yoga or strength training session. On weekends, when I'm free, I prefer to sit down at a cafe and write.

I usually write on my laptop while listening to music. But neither time, place, nor device plays a major role. I write in whatever way the situation allows, and this is where I return to what I mentioned at the beginning.

I don't think of writing as a routine I have. It's just something I do, like brushing my teeth. I don't need to remind myself to brush my teeth or make room for it in my schedule – I just do it without ever thinking about it being a routine.

Of course, it usually takes longer to write a text than to brush your teeth. Of course, everyone's life situation looks different and can change periodically. But no matter how we live, I think it's a good attitude to simply see writing as a natural part of everyday life.

It works for me anyway. I just write.
