No likes, no stats, no problem

I really appreciate the new features available on this fresh little blog home of mine. I like how easy it is to create photo albums and track books. And I love that I can publish blog posts straight from my favorite text editor (iA Writer).

I also appreciate not having some of the usual features.

For instance, there’s no built-in analytics by default. Sure, you can use a third-party tool if you want to, but I’ve chosen not to. I find it more interesting not knowing, just blogging along in blissful uncertainty.

I also like that there are no “likes” — neither for posts nor comments. If I see something I enjoy, I leave a comment. It’s a healthy little threshold, and honestly, far more personal than just clicking a heart or thumbs-up.

The third missing thing I appreciate, if one can like something that isn’t there, is that there’s no follower count on profiles.

If you’re not logged in, all you’ll see are the blogs that person recommends (if they’ve chosen to add any). It’s a built-in blogroll feature on Micro.blog. Here’s my profile if you want to take a look.

And if you are logged in, you’ll see a small note saying Following [the number of] users you aren’t following.

It’s useful and joyful without being overwhelming or distracting.

Sometimes, the best features are the ones that are missing.
